September 19, 2005: Minimum Day. First grade dismissed at 12:20 p.m.
September 20, 2005: Back to school Night. 6:00 p.m.

· Please remember to send a healthy snack with your child each day. Lean meat, cheese, yogurt, fresh fruits and vegetables are ideal choices.

· Our mornings have turned chilly. It’s time to help our children remember to bring a jacket to school. You may wish to write your child’s name on the jackets label.

· Along with colder weather comes the first round of runny noses. Please help keep your child healthier by reinforcing the use of tissue. This is also a good time to reinforce hand washing before eating.

· Make an entry in your Reading Log every night.

FAMILY FOCUS
THE PLACE GAME
Lay the same number of spoons as there are people in your family on the table. Ask your child to show you which spoon is first, second, third, and so on. Repeat with forks, knives, plates, and napkins. Now that everything is out, have your child set the table or dinner. Research has shown that children who have daily chores are more resourceful and secure. These children were also found to have higher self-esteem!
